With less than 2 months until the nations largest 10K race on July 4th, we’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of the AJC Peachtree Road Race with Mizuno USA. Each year Mizuno designs a completely custom, limited edition shoe to kick off the big race—and The Fit Atlanta team was able to witness the reveal of the Peachtree 50th Rider WAVEKNIT at The Mizuno Experience Center in Atlanta on May 3. Built on the same platform as the Wave Rider 22 and the same fit as the WAVEKNIT R2, all of us can celebrate history with every step we take. We’re recapping the event below, as well as the Mizuno Fit Ranking Challenge you get to be a part of, too!
When The Fit Atlanta is involved with an event, we love to make it as interactive as possible. We were able to showcase a few of our favorite Atlanta wellness businesses at the Mizuno Peachtree 50th Rider WAVEKNIT™ launch party for event attendees to experience. Bela Drink, ENDVR Health, Matchagi, and Vivicare Wellness all set up stations for attendees to demo their services and product! So FUN. Our founder, Liz Morrison, introduced the vendor stations and gave a little history about The Fit Atlanta, what we do, and our involvement with Mizuno North America for the 50th running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race. And true to form, we hooked all the attendees up with a new FIT ATL tote bag filled with wellness goodies and nutrition bars thanks to our friends at Wellbox!
The mic went to Megan Kober of The Nutrition Addition next to give attendees nutrition tips ands tricks for pre, during, and post road race! Here were her biggest 3 tips to be a champ at the AJC Peachtree Road Race:
Carb up—don’t be afraid to pound a bag of gummy bears the night before the race. Or pasta, whatever you like. Your body is really going to thank you the next day when it wakes up to full energy stores to uses during the 10K
Stay hydrated—stop at the water stations! They are there for a reason. To avoid unwanted fatigue and cramps, listen to your body when it’s asking for some good ol’ H2O!
Quality recovery—after 6.2 miles, your body will be feeling a certain kind of way. Rest, sleep, stretch, get a cryotherapy session… it’s important to treat your body to a good recovery activity to begin healing!
The Mizuno team introduced us to a new challenge called the Mizuno Fit 50 Challenge—this is a virtual challenge for us to run, walk, hike, skip, just plain MOVE over the course of 50 miles within the 50 days leading up to the 50th running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race on July 4th. Register here (it kicks off May 15th)! Join, win prizes, and stay motivated as you train for the 50th AJC Peachtree Road Race.
And last, but definitely not least, the REVEAL of the Peachtree 50th Rider WAVEKNIT! The moment we have all been waiting for! Inspired by the “Stars and Stripes” of America’s history, cushioning and responsiveness come together in a modern featherweight frame. Featuring the SmoothRide midsole, crafted by combining U4icX and U4ic in a dual compound, the Peachtree 50th Rider WAVEKNIT™ springs into action the moment you put your foot down. The knitted upper combines a natural fit with sleek design, while working with the Mizuno Wave cushioning to provide ultimate comfort and dynamic response.
